(KPL/Yonhap) The main blaze on a Navy warship, which caught fire while entering a naval port in the southeastern city of Jinhae the previous day, has been contained, the Navy said Friday.

The fire occurred at an auxiliary engine system on the 2,600-ton ROKS Hyang Ro Bong as the landing ship was entering the port in Jinhae, some 310 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on Thursday afternoon.

Of the roughly 180 crew members aboard the ship, three were injured, though their injuries were not life-threatening, officials said.

At 3:45 a.m., the main body of the fire was brought under control, about 12 hours after it broke out, with efforts still under way to extinguish the remaining flames, Navy officials said.

Of the three injured, one is still being treated at a military hospital for burns, while the other two have returned to their units after treatment, the Navy said.

The Navy plans to form a committee to investigate the exact cause of the fire and to seek measures to prevent a recurrence of a similar incident.
