(KPL/Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero called to promote the development of key technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and robotics, during a meeting of the Ministry of Communications, Granma newspaper reported on Wednesday.

During the meeting, chaired by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the head of Government urged the Ministry to improve the quality of services and increase foreign exchange earnings, and noted the need to keep an adequate control of electronic commerce.

He also proposed developing actions that will contribute to set up companies in the information and communication technology sector, as well as increasing mobile phone coverage in 4G.

Marrero called to “increase services on the Transfermóvil platform, advance digital transformation in high-impact sectors such as health care, and reduce silence zones and response times for service requests from the population.”

He highlighted the importance of raising culture in the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

In 2025, the Ministry of Communications plans to increase the people’s coverage of mobile telephony, begin testing the 5G technology, develop the potential of the mobile wallet and ensure fiber optic connectivity in some municipal governments.
