(KPL/VNA) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son hosted a working breakfast with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea in New York on September 24, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s 79th session.

It was their first gathering aimed at translating their commitments made at the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Tokyo in December 2023 into tangible actions.

Son thanked Laos and Cambodia for their support to Vietnam in the wake of Typhoon Yagi, and reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent commitment to valuing its special relationship with neighbours, and further deepening ties among the Parties, States, and peoples of the three countries.

The sides agreed on the importance of the strong friendship and close cooperation among their nations to the growth of each country and affirmed the ties are an objective and certain continuation of the history of the relations among the three countries.

Against a backdrop of complex global and regional changes, they underscored the role and strategic value of solidarity and mutual trust, and of strengthening the popularisation work to raise awareness among the people of all walks of life, particularly the youth of the three countries, on the significance and historical value of cooperation among them.

To further bolster this trilateral relationship and implement the agreements and the outcome of high-level visits among the three countries, they agreed to continue maintaining, upholding, and deepening trilateral mechanisms, promote substantive cooperation among the foreign ministries, improve the sharing of information, and coordinate stances on global and regional issues of mutual concern.

Additionally, they will enhance transport infrastructure connectivity and economic links among the three countries, step up the exchanges and training for youth and young leaders to foster enduring relations among them.

At the event, the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister affirmed that his country's withdrawal from the CLV Development Triangle does not affect other cooperation mechanisms, neither bilateral nor trilateral, among the three countries.

The three said they hope that their countries will continue to closely coordinate to make their relations of cooperation and development more effective and practical, for the benefit of their people and the broader ASEAN Community, continuing to contribute to regional peace, stability, and development.

Concluding the event, they agreed to maintain annual meetings to review cooperation areas, helping boost comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation among the three countries for peace, stability, and development in the region.
