India sends emergency flood relief assistance to Lao PDR

ຂປລ India has sent emergency flood relief assistance to help the Lao PDR in dealing with the floods after typhoon Yagi that have caused widespread damage and affected a large number of people in several provinces of the Lao PDR.

(KPL) India has sent emergency flood relief assistance to help the Lao PDR in dealing with the floods after typhoon Yagi that have caused widespread damage and affected a large number of people in several provinces of the Lao PDR.

In view of the urgency, 10 tonnes of flood relief supplies from the Government and people of India were airlifted on-board a special aircraft of Indian Air Force.  The supplies were handed over today at Vientiane’s Wattay airport by Prashant Agrawal, Ambassador of India to Lao PDR, to Mr. Leepao Yang, Vice Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of the Lao PDR.

Ambassador Agrawal said that “India stands with Lao PDR in this difficult moment. In keeping with our close partnership, our two countries would together deal with the challenges posed by natural disasters”.

India has been among first responders in providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to the region.

The relief supplies are worth about USD 100,000 and include about 10 million water purification tablets; 370 water purifiers, 1,000 Kgs of Bleaching Powder; 1,000 Litres of Disinfectant; 1,000 Mosquito Repellents; 1,000 Blankets; 2,000 Sanitary and Personal Hygiene kits; 315 Sleeping Bags; 1,500 Mosquito Nets and a 30 KVA Generator Set.

Nearly 1.1 million chlorine tablets, over 250 water buckets, 4,000 bars of soap, 250 water containers, 5 drinking water tank of 1,000L capacity, 200 packs of sanitary pads, 400 plastic bowls and 5 rolls of UNICEF tarpaulins have been distributed to ensure safe water access and improve hygiene for affected families.
