Cuba, African Union to expand cooperation in science and technology

ຂປລ (KPL/Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez held talks today with the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the African Union (AU), Mohammed Belhocine, on cooperation in areas of common interest. Rodriguez highlighted the historical links that unite Cuba with African countries arising from the support to the decolonization of the continent and the National Liberation Movement.

(KPL/Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez held talks today with the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the African Union (AU), Mohammed Belhocine, on cooperation in areas of common interest. Rodriguez highlighted the historical links that unite Cuba with African countries arising from the support to the decolonization of the continent and the National Liberation Movement.                        

He expressed the Cuban government’s willingness to continue working in collaboration with the AU in areas of mutual interest. In this regard, he referred to the development of cooperation in the areas of education, science and technology, as well as the training of professionals in universities in Havana.

For his part, Belhocine highlighted Cuba’s achievements in the area of education and science, the results in the creation of vaccines and medicines, as well as the support to African countries in those sectors. He also expressed interest in exploring new areas of collaboration.

The delegation headed by the Cuban deputy minister participated in the Second Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean held at the headquarters of the African Union from 23 to 25 July.
