7th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN Held in Vientiane

ຂປລ (KPL) The 7th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN convened today in Vientiane under the presidency of Mr. Bovonthat Duangchack, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Lao PDR to ASEAN.

(KPL) The 7th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN convened today in Vientiane under the presidency of Mr. Bovonthat Duangchack, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Lao PDR to ASEAN.

Attendees included the permanent representatives of ASEAN member states, representatives from Timor-Leste as an observer, and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting reviewed the progress in implementing the outcomes of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting and related meetings held in Vientiane from June 6-8. The discussion focused on monitoring the progress in building the ASEAN Community, enhancing external relations and cooperation, and refining the annual work plan for the ASEAN Standing Committee.

Preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on July 23 were also discussed.

The CPR, established in 2009 following the enforcement of the ASEAN Charter, has several roles as defined in Article 12 of the Charter. These include:

1. Supporting the work of the ASEAN Community Councils and sectoral ministerial bodies; 2. Coordinating with ASEAN national secretariats and sectoral ministerial bodies; 3. Working with the ASEAN Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretariat on related tasks; 4. Facilitating ASEAN’s cooperation with external partners; and 5. Performing additional duties as determined by the ASEAN Coordinating Council.
