10th International Day of Yoga celebrates in Vientiane

ຂປລ (KPL) The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrated in Vientiane on Saturday, 22 June 2024 by Embassy of India in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lao-India Friendship Association with support from its partners Art of Living Laos.

(KPL) The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrated in Vientiane on Saturday, 22 June 2024 by Embassy of India in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lao-India Friendship Association with support from its partners Art of Living Laos.

Yoga enthusiasts from all walks of life joined leaders, ambassadors, diplomatic corps, media persons and students in this flagship yoga session held on the theme “ Yoga for Self and Society” in Vientiane.

The event was attended by Minister for Education and Sports Phout Simmalavong, Vice Mayor of Vientiane Phouvong Vongkhamsao and President of Laos-India Friendship Association Southam Sakonhninhom.

Ambassador Prashant Agrawal in his welcome remarks mentioned that Yoga had now become a global movement promoting health and well-being. Yoga helped nourish peace and harmony, within self and society.

The International Day of Yoga is celebrated all over the world, following the proclamation of 21st June as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations in December 2014 at India's initiative. The Embassy of India in Vientiane has been organizing IDY every year since 2015.

The Yoga Session was conducted by Art of Living Laos, along with a large number of yoga volunteers. The run up to the main event on 22nd June a number of yoga sessions, curtain-raisers and demonstrations were conducted by the Embassy of India with support from local authorities in Luang Prabang, Pakse, VangVieng and Vientiane over the past one month. Special yoga sessions for students were held in Souphanouvong University in Luang Prabang and Champassak University in Pakse as also several schools in Vientiane.
