(KPL) The Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Phongsaly Province signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on a macadamia planting demonstration project with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Bien Province of Vietnam on Jun 11.
Signatories to the document were Mr Somchit Sitthivong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Phongsaly Province and Ms Chu Thi Thanh Xuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Bien Province.
The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Khamphoy Vanasan, Governor of Phongsaly Province, Mr Lo Van Tien, Deputy Governor of Dien Bien Province, Ms Kieuthi Hang Phuc, Consul General of Vietnam in Luang Prabang Province, and representatives of relevant parties of both sides.

The document states that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Bien Province will help Phongsaly Province to plant macadamia in an area of 5 ha, and provide the Lao side with macadamia seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and planting and maintenance techniques.
On the same day, both parties also visited the area which will be used as a macadamia planting demonstration plantation.
Like most other nuts, macadamia nuts are rich in nutrients and beneficial plant compounds. They’re also linked to several benefits, including improved digestion, heart health, weight management, and blood sugar control, according to healthline.com.
Native to Australia, macadamia trees are now grown in various places around the world, such as Brazil, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and New Zealand.
