(KPL) The Australian Embassy and the ASEAN Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-hosted the launch of the report ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partners: ASEAN and Australia after the first 50 years’, commemorating the 50th anniversary of dialogue relations in Vientiane on May 15, 2024.
The report reflects on ASEAN-Australia engagement across economic, socio-cultural, and political-security initiatives, informed by discussions with leaders, diplomats, policymakers, and analysts.
The report offers recommendations to advance cooperation in areas including youth leadership, digital economy, and climate change and green energy transition.

“We were honoured to welcome Lao officials, Australian alumni, university students, and the Australian Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the anniversary and launch the report with us. Guests had the opportunity to explore a photo exhibition of key moments and milestones in the relationship over the decades,” said Megan Jones, Australian Ambassador to Laos.

For the past 50 years, Australia and ASEAN have built a strong partnership based on listening, mutual trust, and shared interests. Together we now look to the future, and the next 50 years, to promote peace and prosperity in the region.
