(KPL) Luang Prabang has adjusted upward the number of high-end tourists coming to the world heritage city this year to 1.7 million.

Luang Prabang authorities made new adjustments after realizing that the number of tourists from Thailand, China, Europe, America, R.Korea, Japan and other countries has increasing sharply over recent months as Laos has cheaper travel costs, food and accommodation than other countries in ASEAN.

As for Visit Laos Year 2024, Luang Prabang expects to attract 1.12 million medium-end visitors and 1.77 million high-end travelers. These include over 555,000 domestic visitors and 2.34 million foreign tourists.

Revenues generated by both high-end and medium-end visitors are expected to reach 1.6 billion US dollars.

Across Luang Prabang Province, there are more than 200 tourist attractions, including over 100 natural tourist sites, 78 cultural destinations and 39 historical attractions.

There are over 100 tour companies in the province along with 100 hotels/resorts, over 400 guest houses, almost 400 restaurants, and over 80 entertainment venues and spa shops.

Last year, Luang Prabang welcomed over 1 million visitors, almost doubled the number recorded in 2022.

Ms Phonmany, an entrepreneur in Luang Phabang said, “After Covid-19 was over, vendors and business operators began to be happy because almost 80% of Luang Phabang residents rely on tourism-related services, ranging from restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, wholesalers and retailers, to boat tour services, vans rental services, among others. Now there are a lot of tourists coming to Luang Prabang using trains, airplanes and roads.”
