Phongsaly to organize Ethnic Food & Tea Festival to promote Visit Laos Year 2024

ຂປລ (KPL) Phongsaly, the northernmost province of Laos, has a population of about 200,000 people. The province borders China to the north and Vietnam to the east. Phou Fa has been revered by Phongsaly people.

(KPL) Phongsaly, the northernmost province of Laos, has a population of about 200,000 people. The province borders China to the north and Vietnam to the east. Phou Fa has been revered by Phongsaly people.

Phou Fa is a beautiful mountain, located northeast of Phongsaly Province. The mountain stands 1,625 m above sea level. Its total area is 200 hectares.

Phongsaly is known as the birthplace of green tea. 400-year-old tea and famous green wine are from this province. 400-year-old tea is produced in Koman, a village located in the municipal area of Phongsaly Province. People in Koman have been well-known for their long tradition of growing tea for a living.

A tea plantation in Ban Lak Si (KM 4 village) is another attraction. It is a beautiful tea farm with a total area of 22 ha. 

Recently, Phongsaly Province has just announced that it will organize a festival of tribal food and tea to promote Visit Laos Year 2024 in the province in November.

Mr Somtouy Phommavongxay, Deputy Director of Information, Culture and Tourism Department of Phongsaly Province said that the festival will feature several activities including an ethnic food contest, a tea making contest, a tribal beauty contest, an ethnic food exhibition, a tea and ODOP product exhibition, and cultural performances.

Last week, the authorities of the province also launched Visit Laos Year 2024 in Yod Ou District in conjunction with the celebration of Pha That Ong Hai Festival.
