(KPL) The Lao government and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Vientiane held a reception to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Lao PDR and the Republic of Indonesia with a theme Robust@60: Now & Beyond.
The event also marked the 72nd anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia and the 72nd anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces Day.
“These three occasions are highly significant to Indonesia because it signifies that we are able to maintain our unity in diversity. Our 72nd anniversary of Independence reflects the sovereign state of the Republic of Indonesia and the 72nd anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces reflects the strong and well-developed security for our state,” said in his remarks Indonesian Ambassador to Laos, Mr Irmawan Emir Wisnandar.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith said that 60 years ago, on 30 August 1957, Laos and Indonesia signed Agreement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, which was considered as historic milestone in the friendly relations and cooperation that fully responded to the aspiration of the two nations.
“Through six decades of relations, we have witnessed that our two countries have deepened our friendship at various levels both government to government and people to people. The exchange of visits between Lao and Indonesian high ranking officials, and civil servants has become more frequent . This has contributed to creating conducive environment for our mutual understanding, trust and enhancing bilateral cooperation,” said Minister Saleumxay.
“The cooperation between the two countries in areas of trade and investment, agriculture, and human resources development, though still limited, will be a promising one over the years to come,” said the minister.
He added that the Lao PDR firmly committed to further strengthening and enhancing the two countries’ traditional friendly relations and good cooperation, thus contributing to enhancing solidarity and cohesiveness of ASEAN community, the region and the world at large.
The minister also spoke highly of the support and assistance extended by the government and people of Indonesia to Lao PDR in numerous areas such as agriculture and human resources development.
