ຂປລ Buddhist leaders and representatives from 30 countries gathered at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane on October 29 to discuss how Buddhist teachings can adapt to changing lifestyles, modern mindsets and social challenges facing younger generations.

(KPL) The seminar was held as part of the 11th Nanhai Buddhism Shenzhen Forum in Vientiane. Participants included Most Venerable Yin Shun, President of the Shenzhen Buddhist Association and Abbot of Hongfa Temple in China; Most Venerable Damlong Phimmachack, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organization (LBFO) and Head of its International Monks Affairs Committee; Sonsamai Vorasane, Director General of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Office; Buddhist monks from 30 countries; and representatives of the Lao Front for National Development.

Speaking at the seminar, Most Venerable Damlong said monks continued to play an important role in society by providing spiritual guidance to people in their daily lives. He noted that advances in information technology had created new opportunities to share Buddhist teachings more widely and efficiently.

He said digital platforms could help younger generations access the Buddha’s teachings more easily, while enabling monks to use modern communication tools to make the dissemination of Dhamma more effective.

The seminar also examined how Generation Z and other young people are engaging with Buddhism in the digital age. Rather than viewing the religion solely through traditional practices and rituals, many young people are exploring ways to apply Buddhist principles to contemporary lifestyles and everyday challenges.

Key topics included the use of Buddhist teachings for stress management and emotional well-being, the presentation of Dhamma through short videos, podcasts and other digital platforms, and a growing emphasis on reason and practical application in daily life.

Participants also discussed the integration of mindfulness and meditation into education, work and personal development as ways to promote balance amid rapid technological and economic change.

The seminar provided a platform for Buddhist representatives to exchange views on making religious teachings more accessible and relevant to younger generations while addressing emerging social issues.
