Laos, Kyrgyzstan Seek Closer Ties During PM Meeting

ຂປລ Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone received a courtesy call from Mr Anwar Anarbaev, special representative of the president of the Kyrgyzstan, during his working visit to the Lao PDR on May 18.


During the meeting, Sonexay welcomed Mr Anarbaev, who also serves as Kyrgyzstan’s ambassador to Laos based in Kuala Lumpur, and thanked the Kyrgyz government and people for their longstanding support and cooperation with Laos.

The prime minister noted that Kyrgyzstan, during the former Soviet Union era, had contributed to human resource development assistance for Laos and expressed hope for stronger bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries in the future.

Mr Sonexay also conveyed warm regards to Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev.

Mr Anarbaev thanked the Lao government for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Laos.

He also delivered greetings from Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and invited the Lao prime minister to visit Kyrgyzstan at a mutually convenient time.

Both sides praised the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which established diplomatic relations on July 13, 1995.

In 2025, Laos and Kyrgyzstan marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties by exchanging congratulatory messages reaffirming their friendly relations and cooperation.

The two countries also highlighted the implementation of a mutual visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders, signed in 2016 and effective since 2017, as a reflection of continued bilateral support and cooperation at regional and international levels.
