Deputy Prime Minister Receives Deputy Governor of Yunnan

KPL - Asean 2024 On September 24, 2025, at the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Saleumsay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, received a courtesy visit from Mr. Xi Hao, Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China, and his delegation during their working visit to Laos from September 23–26, 2025.


On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Deputy Governor and his delegation, and congratulated Mr. Xi Hao on his appointment as Deputy Governor of Yunnan in February. He emphasized the importance of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Laos and China, built on the “Four Goods” principles and the concept of a community of shared destiny.

He highlighted in particular the strong cooperative ties between Laos and Yunnan Province in sectors such as large-scale infrastructure development and human resource development, which have brought tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister also encouraged relevant sectors of the Lao PDR and Yunnan Province to continue advancing agreed-upon projects. These include maximizing the use of the Laos–China railway, upgrading border checkpoints to facilitate trade and travel, promoting consideration and approval of the Boten–Vientiane expressway project with the goal of opening it by 2030, and implementing development plans around the railway corridor. He further encouraged continued support for assistance projects and urged Chinese businesspeople and investors, particularly from Yunnan, to expand investment and tourism in Laos.

In response, the Deputy Governor of Yunnan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Lao authorities. He reaffirmed the purpose of his visit, which is to further strengthen cooperative relations between Yunnan Province and the Lao PDR.

He underscored Yunnan’s commitment to promoting cooperation in cultural and tourism exchanges, as well as monitoring and advancing Lao–China cooperative projects to ensure their successful implementation according to plan.
