    (KPL) Fifteen diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are attending a special course being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs of India. The course has focus on exchange of best practices in diplomacy. It is specifically tailored towards protocol related activities which these diplomats will handle in the coming months, in line with the 2024 ASEAN chairmanship of the Lao PDR. During the programme, their Indian counterparts will share the experience of India’s recent successful hosting of G-20 Summit.

    (KPL) This year, Australia is celebrating 50 years of partnership with ASEAN. We are proud to be ASEAN’s oldest Dialogue Partner, and the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne last week commemorated this significant anniversary.

    The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.
