Japan Supports School Improvements in Bokeo Province

KPL The Government of Japan has provided a grant worth USD 88,546 for “The Project for the Construction of Hatsa Lower Secondary School Building in Bokeo Province” under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The initiative aims to enhance educational and sanitary conditions for students and teachers in the area.

The project will fund the construction of a new classroom building, toilet facilities, and essential school equipment in Hatsa Village, Paktha District, Bokeo Province, helping to improve the overall learning environment and school infrastructure.

A signing ceremony for the grant agreement took place between Mr. KOIZUMI Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR, and a local authority representative, witnessed by Brig. Gen. Mr. Penekham Bountchanpheng, Governor of Bokeo Province.

Ambassador Koizumi emphasized Japan’s commitment to supporting education in Laos, expressing hope that the new facilities will provide a better learning environment for future generations, improve working conditions for teachers, and promote sanitation throughout the school.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) is a Japanese initiative designed to fund small-scale projects that directly benefit local communities by supporting economic and social development in developing countries, including the Lao PDR.

To date, the Government of Japan has implemented 10 projects in Bokeo Province across education, health, and infrastructure sectors, with total assistance amounting to approximately USD 870,000. This latest initiative marks the seventh school construction project in the province and the first in Paktha District.

In line with its commitment to addressing regional disparities in socio-economic development, Japan will continue to support initiatives that improve the quality of life and ensure that “no one is left behind.”
