Shared Water of Lancang-Mekong River, Jointly Compose a New Chapter of Cooperation: Years of In-Depth Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Bears Fruitful Outcomes

The Lancang-Mekong River, a golden waterway flowing across the Indo-China Peninsula, forms a bond linking China, Cambodia, the Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It is the mother river nourishing millions of people living across the basin. Since the launch of the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Mechanism, the six riparian countries have followed the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Focusing on water resources, they have been working together to advance river basin governance, people’s livelihood, ecological protection and technical exchanges. With ten years of steadfast efforts and long-term commitment, the riparian countries have implemented a series of pragmatic cooperation projects with improving people’s livelihood as main objective.
