(KPL) Authorities of Hadxaifong district have a plan to renovate Buddha Park, also known as Xieng Khuan, a famous sculpture park located 25 km southeast from Vientiane Capital in a meadow by the Mekong River.

The renovation plan for Xieng Khuan, one of Vientiane Capital’s tourist destinations, was disclosed this week by Chief of Hadxaifong district, Mr Bountham Phouttavongsa.

Xieng Khuan Buddha Park is now in poor condition and its rental concession contract will end soon. It is a good time for a renovation,” he said.

Buddha Park has more than 200 religious statues including a huge 40-metre high reclining Buddha image.

It was built in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a monk who studied both Buddhism and Hinduism. This explains why his park is full not only of Buddha images but also of Hindu gods as well as demons and animals from both beliefs, according to the website www.visit-laos.com.
