(KPL) Two Covid-19 infection cases have been confirmed in Vientiane Capital, Deputy Minister of Health Phouthone Meuangpak told a press conference today.

The first two cases include a 36-year-old female guide who treated visitors from Europe early this month and a 28-year-old male staff at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Vientiane Capital who has been believed to have contacted the virus when he was attending a workshop in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two are receiving medical treatment and close care from medical workers at Mittaphab Hospital according to international medical standards, the deputy minister said.

"Once their test results were known the two patients were put under quarantine at Mittaphab Hospital. We have observed their conditions and we have found that they are in stable conditions. In addition, our officials have visited their accommodation, workplaces and the places they have visited to find out if any people have contacted them and impose measures to contain the outbreak," said Dr. Phouthone.

They are the first two infection cases among 131 people who have undergone tests for Covid-19. The test results for the others are negative.

The Lao PDR has taken a significant step toward restoring wild tigers with the finalization of the National Tiger Recovery Action Plan (NTRAP) 2026–2035, a long-term national framework designed to guide conservation efforts in priority ecological landscapes across the country. The plan comes at a critical time, as there has been no confirmed scientific evidence of wild tigers in Laos since 2013, when the last individual was recorded by camera traps in Nam Et–Phou Louey National Park.
