Khammuan: almost 3,000 ha of rice farmland flooded

KPL (KPL) Almost 3,000 ha of rice field in Nongbok and Xebangfay districts of Khammuan Province were damaged following several days of heavy rains last month. Local authorities said that damage from the natural disaster in Nongbok district was estimated at about 12.5 billion kip (over US$1.5 million) with 1,392 ha of rice farmland damaged in 31 villages.

(KPL) Almost 3,000 ha of rice field in Nongbok and Xebangfay districts of Khammuan Province were damaged following several days of heavy rains last month.

Local authorities said that damage from the natural disaster in Nongbok district was estimated at about 12.5 billion kip (over US$1.5 million) with 1,392 ha of rice farmland damaged in 31 villages.

The natural disaster also caused damaged to 70 ha of corn and 30 ha of other cash crops in the villages of Donkiao, Buengsantha, Santueng and Donpadak. The damage to the aforementioned crops was estimated at over 4.5 billion kip (US$550,000). 

Nongbok District planned early this year to plant rice crops on 15,670 ha, however only 11,425 ha had been planted with rice crops so far this monsoon season. This includes 3,297 ha of weir-irrigated of rice farmland.
