Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 5 held an official welcoming ceremony and talks with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during the Lao leader's state visit to China.

The welcoming ceremony took place at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People, where Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, formally welcomed Thongloun, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao PDR.

Following the ceremony, the two leaders met at the Great Hall of the People to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation. The meeting reflected the close and longstanding friendship between Laos and China and underscored both countries' commitment to further strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Thongloun is paying a state visit to China from June 2-6 at the invitation of President Xi. The visit coincides with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and China and the celebration of Laos-China Friendship Year 2026.
The visit is expected to deepen cooperation in various areas including trade, investment, connectivity, infrastructure development, cultural exchanges and people-to-people relations, while advancing the building of a Laos-China community with a shared future.
