Authorities in Attapeu Province have signed concession agreements with six private companies to restore degraded forests by planting commercial fruit trees—specifically durian.

The deal, signed on May 15, aims to turn abandoned forest land in Bengvilay and Phonmani villages, Sanamxay District, into sustainable agricultural zones. The project spans more than 528 hectares and will run for 30 years.
"The goal is to bring degraded forest areas back to life by planting high-value fruit trees for export," said Mr. Soulivong Aphayvong, Deputy Chair of the Attapeu Provincial Administration Committee. "This will create local jobs and boost the economy."
Under the agreement, four companies will operate on 343 hectares in Phonmani Village, while two companies will work on nearly 185 hectares in Bengvilay Village. The six firms include Sangkham Complete Development Sole Co., Ltd., Mekmunkham Import-Export and Complete Agriculture Sole Co., Ltd., Vansana Complete Agriculture and Construction Sole Co., Ltd., Viengsamay Complete Agriculture and Construction Development Sole Co., Ltd., Saengalun Import-Export, Agriculture and Mining Sole Co., Ltd., and Saengxay Import-Export and Complete Agriculture Sole Co., Ltd.
Provincial officials said the project supports the government's push toward modern, sustainable commercial agriculture and is expected to contribute significantly to Attapeu's socio-economic development.
Representatives from both the state and private sector signed a memorandum of agreement to begin implementation as planned.
