(KPL/Yonhap) Republic of Korea and African nations agreed to hold a foreign ministerial meeting next year as the two sides seek to continue the momentum for deeper cooperation following their inaugural leaders' summit last year, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday.

The top diplomats' gathering will take place in Seoul in June, a decision reached during their Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) on Tuesday, co-led by Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Eui-hae and Angolan Ambassador to South Korea Sianga Kivuila Samuel Abilio, the ministry said in a release.

At the SOM, Chung highlighted the need to further develop ties with Africa in a substantive and mutually beneficial manner to diversify diplomacy amid the rapidly changing international landscape.

Angola is this year's chair for the African Union, a platform representing 55 countries in the region.
