Former President Khamtay Siphandone Passes Away at 102

ຂປລ General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, former State President, and senior revolutionary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, passed away at 10:30 AM today at the age of 102. His death was attributed to old age.

(KPL) General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, former State President, and senior revolutionary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, passed away at 10:30 AM today at the age of 102. His death was attributed to old age.

To express profound gratitude and deepest mourning for General Khamtay Siphandone, the Party Central Committee, National Assembly, Government of the Lao PDR, and the Lao Front for National Development have declared five days of national mourning from April 3 to 7, 2025.. Official memorial services will be held at the National Convention Centre, Vientiane.

All celebratory parties, sports, cultural, and entertainment activities are banned during the national mourning.

Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith led the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Sekong Coal-Fired Power Plant Project, a $4 billion initiative by Ponsak Co., Ltd.
