(KPL) The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MLSW) is set to organize the 4th National Skills Competition under the theme "Lao Skills Advancing to Regional and International Levels" from April 28-30, 2025.
The event aims to identify and select top-skilled workers to represent Laos at the 14th ASEAN Skills Competition, scheduled to take place in the Philippines at the end of August 2025.
Mr. Phongxaysack Inthalath, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 4th National Skills Competition and preparations for the 14th ASEAN Skills Competition, announced to the media on March 11, 2025, that the competition will feature five skill categories, each held at different institutions:
Electrical Installation in Buildings – Institute of Labor Skills Development
Graphic Design Technology – Vientiane-Hanoi Friendship Vocational Technical College
Food Preparation – Pakpasak Technical College
Wood Cabinet Making – April 27-30, 2025, at the Institute of Labor Skills Development
Website Technology – April 4, 2025, at the National Convention Hall
The national skills competition is a key initiative to enhance workforce capabilities and prepare skilled Lao workers for regional and international labor markets.
Additionally, the competition provides a platform for young people, vocational students, and Lao workers of all ethnic backgrounds to demonstrate their talents. It encourages youth to recognize the value of vocational training and skills development, fostering a new generation of highly skilled professionals.
Mr. Phongxaysack emphasized that the competition not only raises awareness of vocational education but also helps Lao workers develop skills aligned with national, ASEAN, and international labor standards. The initiative aims to increase employer confidence in hiring skilled labor, improve product quality, and strengthen cooperation between businesses and vocational training institutions.
