(KPL/Prensa Latina) The sanitary alert for avian influenza is in force in Uruguayan territory due to the report of an outbreak of the disease detected in neighboring Argentina.
The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) decreed the alert for the outbreak in the locality of Tres Isletas, in the province of Chaco, near the Uruguayan northern border.
An MGAP statement recalls that avian influenza can have an impact on biodiversity, cause significant economic losses and pose risks to public health in the event of contact with infected birds.
That is why the Ministry urged to notify immediately to the Animal Health Division of the Ministry the cases of mortality of wild or domestic birds for an early detection and control of the disease.
