(KPL) Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh met with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Apr 23

The summit,  the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since PM Phankham took office on March 22, 2021, reaffirmed Laos’ commitment to work together with Japan to continue to promote friendship, sound cooperation and strategic partnership between Laos and Japan, and to further implement the Action Plan for Advancement of Strategic Partnership between the Lao PDR and Japan.

Prime Minister Phankham appreciated the Japanese government upon its successful hosting of the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit and its efforts to rehabilitate Kumamoto and adjacent provinces after a major earthquake hit the provinces six years ago in order to bring normalcy to people’s living conditions.

The two leaders highly valued the outcomes of cooperation between the two countries over the past years noting that the cooperation between the two countries have entered a new era since the upgrading of their diplomatic ties to strategic partnership in 2015, with bilateral and multilateral cooperation growing at regional and international arena.

The Lao PDR reaffirmed its commitment to continue to work closely with Japan under the bilateral framework, actively contribute to the cooperation and development in the region and the world especially their cooperation under ASEAN-Japan and MekongJapan frameworks.
