Nam Theun 2, IRD sign scientific and technical cooperation agreement

(KPL) The Nam Theun 2 Power Company and the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) have signed an agreement for scientific and technical cooperation to promote scientific monitoring of aquatic ecosystems within the Nam Theun 2 basin.

The signing ceremony of the agreement was held on Nov 26 at the Office of Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) at the National University of Laos (NUOL) Dongdok campus.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Eric Deharo, Representative of IRD to Laos and Mr. Olivier Didry, CEO, Nam Theun 2.

The Nam Theun Power Company and the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) with its academic partners have been collaborating in the fields of environment and aquatic sciences within the Nam Theun 2 Aquatic and Environment Lab (AEL) in Yommalath district, Khammuan Province.

This agreement was put together as part of Nam Theun 2’s intention to promote scientific monitoring of aquatic ecosystems by providing reputed know-how in this field and the mission of the IRD pertaining to the transfer of proficiencies in developing countries to enhance, in the long run, scientific excellence dedicated to fundamental research and to training through research.

As part of the agreement, special attention will be given to scientific and technical training and scientific collaboration between the two parties at the national and regional scale.
