ຂປລ On 3 November 2026, the Australian Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Ms Megan Jones, paid a farewell call on the Head of the Central Committee for Organisation and Personnel (CCOP), Ms Sisay Leudethmounsone.

They reflected on the significant growth in Laos-Australia cooperation over the past three years and discussed practical priorities for strengthening the partnership, particularly in human resource development.
Ambassador Jones thanked the Lao leader for her support for the bilateral relationship and welcomed progress since their previous meeting in May 2026.
Australia was pleased to be supporting the revised English Language for Lao Government Officials curriculum, including with the National Academy of Politics and Public Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Through the Laos Australia Institute (LAI), Australia was also exploring further English language support, informed by the needs of Lao Government officials.
Ambassador Jones said Australia was pleased to support CCOP officials through short courses, study tours and leadership development opportunities, including on gender inclusive leadership. She highlighted LAI’s Women in Leadership programme, which supports the empowerment of female leadership in government, private and civil sectors.

Ms Sisay welcomed progress in these areas and encouraged Australia to maintain close engagement with CCOP.
She identified expanded English language training, stronger capacity building for public servants and female leaders, additional institutional exchanges, and support for the 2028 ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters conference as priorities for future cooperation.
The discussion also highlighted cooperation through the Laos-Australia Friendship Association. In 2026, Australia had supported five geoeconomic workshops, including with the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences (LASES), the National Academy of Politics and Public Administration (NAPPA), and the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA).
Recent study tours had also strengthened two-way understanding of Australian and Lao political systems, institutions and policy priorities.
Ms Sisay thanked Ambassador Jones and the Australian Embassy for their contribution to the bilateral relationship. Both sides expressed confidence that the close cooperation and friendship between Australia and Laos would continue, underpinned by a shared commitment to human resource development and stronger institutions.
