(KPL) Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith warmly welcomed Indonesia's President-elect Prabowo Subianto during an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the Lao PDR and Indonesia.
The meeting took place at the National Assembly in Vientiane as part of Mr Prabowo Subianto’s introduction ahead of his official inauguration as Indonesia’s 8th President, scheduled for October 2024.
The visit underscored the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Laos and Indonesia, which have spanned over six decades. President Thongloun expressed confidence that President-elect Prabowo Subianto’s visit would contribute significantly to the continued strengthening of the bilateral relationship, enhancing cooperation in various fields.
Both leaders exchanged views on their countries' partnership, commending the lasting and fruitful cooperation that has developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1957. Over the past six decades, cooperation has expanded, notably in trade, investment, and regional cooperation within the ASEAN framework. From 2019 to the first half of 2024, bilateral trade surpassed USD 188.4 million, reflecting steady growth in economic relations.

He also conveyed well-wishes to outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo and extended congratulations to the Indonesian people on their recent 79th Independence Day, celebrated on August 17, 2024.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the close ties between their nations, particularly through mechanisms such as the Lao-Indonesian Joint Cooperation on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC).
