Xieng Khuang hosts 3rd National Para Games

KPL (KPL) The 3rd National Para Games was hosted in Xieng Khuang on Feb 8-18 and participated by athletic delegations from 17 provinces and Vientiane. Almost 200 athletes competed in seven sports namely swimming, weightlifting, track and field, goalball, wheelchair basketball, football, and bocce.

Almost 200 athletes competed in seven sports namely swimming, weightlifting, track and field, goalball, wheelchair basketball, football, and bocce.

Over 400 medals, including 135 gold medals, 135 silver medals and 135 bronze medals, were up for grabs.

Vientiane ranked first in the games’ medal tally as it had won 34 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 10 gold medals, followed by Xekong winning 16 gold, 16 silver, and 9 gold medals, and the host Xieng Khuang grabbing 14 gold, 15 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Winners of the competition will represent Laos at the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia which is expected to take place in June 2023.

The closing ceremony of the event was held on Feb 18 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Vice President of the National Assembly Sounthone Xayachak, and Governor of Xieng Khuang Province Bounchan Sivongphanh, Minister of Education and Sports Phout Simmalavong,  and Mayor of Vientiane Adsaphangthong Siphandone, the host of the 4th National Para Games.

Laos’ first and second National Para Games were held in Luang Prabang in 2012, and Oudomxay in 2015, respectively.
