He flew from Papua New Guinea on Mar 21 and reached Singapore on Mar 22. Then he had a transit stop at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and flew to Vientiane on Mar 23. On Mar 24 he checked in at Crowne Plaza Hotel and left Vientiane a day later with 11 other people. He developed some symptoms including fever, cough, headache on Mar 3. He was admitted to Mittaphab Hospital on Apr 4 and he was diagnosed as positive for Covid-19 on the same day.
“What we will do for the moment is we will concentrate on treating him so that he can recover as soon as possible. We have already sent a team to Phu Bia Mining to collect information finding out how many people have had close contact with him. The initial data suggested that 11 people including the driver had traveled with him from Vientiane to Phu Bia Mining as well as other 100 workers at the company. All of these people will be quarantined and all employees of the company must be placed under surveillance,” said Dr. Phouthone Meuangpak. “The places the man had visited along the way will be disinfected and the Phu Bia Mining company must suspend its operation.”
