(KPL/VNA) Mr. Khammone Chanthachith, Deputy Head of the Commission for Propaganda and Training of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), has commended Vietnam’s organisation of the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) 2026 and highlighted the country’s growing role within ASEAN.
Speaking to a correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on the sidelines of the ASEAN-China Media Cooperation Forum in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, Mr. Khammone noted that 2026 marks the third consecutive year that Vietnam has hosted the regional forum.
He described the theme of this year’s forum as highly meaningful, reflecting ASEAN’s forward-looking vision and the region’s shared aspirations for peace, development, and improved living standards for its people.
Mr. Khammone said Vietnam holds a central position and plays an important role in advancing regional cooperation initiatives, including the ASEAN Future Forum.
He highlighted several of Vietnam’s strengths, including its strategic geographical location and coastline of more than 3,200 kilometres, which provides favourable conditions for maritime economic development, trade, and regional connectivity.
The Lao official also praised Vietnam’s economic achievements, noting that the country has maintained strong growth rates that have gained international recognition. He expressed confidence that Vietnam would continue to make significant progress in the years ahead.
He further commended Vietnam’s stable political and social environment, describing it as a key foundation for sustainable development and expanded international cooperation.
According to Mr. Khammone, Vietnam’s foreign policy of peace, independence, and proactive international integration has helped strengthen ties with ASEAN member states and partners around the world.
He also pointed to Vietnam’s young and dynamic workforce, as well as its rich tourism resources and scenic attractions, which continue to enhance the country’s attractiveness to international visitors and investors.
Looking ahead to AFF 2026, Mr. Khammone expressed confidence that the forum would continue to promote dialogue, strengthen solidarity, cooperation and connectivity among member states, and contribute to the building of a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable ASEAN Community with people at its centre.
