(KPL) The Lao World Public Company (Lao World) has provided almost 150 billion kip (over US$18.5 million) to build roads and bridges in Vientiane Capital.

An agreement on the financial assistance for infrastructure edevelopment projects took place in Vientiane on 11 June between Vientiane Mayor Sinlavong Khoutphaithoun and the President of Lao World Public, Mr Xokxay Vongmanasith.

The financial support from Lao World will be used to build a bridge over the Nam Ngum River between Ban Nabong and Ban Thakokhai in Pakngum district, a stretch of road, and three bridges over the Hongseng canal in Xaysettha District, Vientiane Capital.

The Nam Ngum bridge will be built at a cost of 105 billion kip (almost US$13 million).  It will be a concrete bridge that is approximately 220 m long and 11 m wide with 1.5 m sidewalks on both sides, according to Mr Xokxay, who said that the construction will last around 24 months.

In addition, a 2 km road will be constructed between the Phonphanao intersection and the Lao-America College along with three bridges spanning the Hongseng canal. The construction of the three 9-m wide bridges is estimated to cost over 40 billion kip (almost US$5 million).

“The project is expected to be completed before the celebration of Lao National Day (2 December),” said Mr Xokxay.

The document was signed in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and relevant officials.
