(KPL) The first Plenary Session of the National Assembly (NA)’s eighth legislature was officially held in Vientiane yesterday and appointed the NA’s body and government officials to high-ranking positions.
The session was chaired by President of the National Assembly Pany Yathortou in attendance of high-ranking officials of the Party and government, 149 NA members of the eighth legislature, former leaders and invited guests.

(KPL) The first Plenary Session of the National Assembly (NA)’s eighth legislature was officially held in Vientiane yesterday and appointed the NA’s body and government officials to high-ranking positions.
The session was chaired by President of the National Assembly Pany Yathortou in attendance of high-ranking officials of the Party and government, 149 NA members of the eighth legislature, former leaders and invited guests.
The first day of three-day session approved the appointment of high-ranking positions including the new President, the new Vice President, the NA President, the new Vice NA President, the new Prime Minister, new Deputy Prime Ministers, new members the Standing Committee of the NA and members of the Government Cabinet.
Mrs Pany Yathortou was re-elected as President of the Lao National Assembly. Mr Somphanh Phengkhammy was also re-elected as the Vice NA President. In addition, three new Vice NA Presidents were appointed namely Lt. Gen. Sengnouan Sayalath, Mr Bounpone Bouttanavong and Ms Sisay Leudethmounsone.
During the session, Mr Bounnhang Vorachit was elected as the new President of the Lao PDR replacing Mr Choummaly Sayasone who has retired. Dr Phankham Viphavanh was elected as the new Vice President replacing Mr Bounnhang.
Meanwhile, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith was elected as the new Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, replacing Mr Thongsing Thammavong. Three new Deputy Prime Ministers were also appointed.
Mr Khamsane Souvong was re-elected as President of the Office of the Supreme Public Prosecutor and Mr Khamphanh Sitthidampha was re-elected as President of the People's Supreme Court.
New members of the cabinet were also appointed at the first Plenary Session as follows:

The session will also consider and approve the Vision 2030, the Strategy 2025, the 8th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2016-2020), the State Budget Plan (2016-2020), the State Budget Plan for the first quarter of 2017, and the NA reports on Vision 2030, the Strategy 2025, the next five year plan, and the five-year law making and amending plan of the 8th legislature.
During the meeting, National General Election Committee representative, Mr Chansy Phosykham reported about the outcomes of the March 20 election in which 149 out of the total 211 candidates were elected as the NA’s 8th legislature. Of those elected, 27.5% of them are female.
At all 18 constituencies across the country, the number of eligible voters was 3,733,932 including 1,851,987 women. There were 3,657,026 who went to exercise their right to vote which equaled 98% of the total eligible voters.
