                                                        (KPL) On October 27, 2025, the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of the University of Health Sciences Hospital was held in Xiengda Village, Xaysettha District, Vientiane Capital. The new hospital will be an eight-story, 400-bed facility with a total height of 44.10 meters.
The ceremony was attended by Ms. Bounkham Khathiya, Minister of Health; Mr. Jung Yung-Soo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Lao PDR; and representatives from relevant ministries and sectors.
The main hospital building will measure 87.60 by 92.40 meters. The first to third floors will house outpatient departments, laboratories, radiology, emergency, surgical, and obstetrics units. The fourth to eighth floors, measuring 24.90 by 92.40 meters, will be used for patient treatment and teaching purposes. The hospital will provide 400 beds in a combination of single, double, and five-bed communal rooms.
In addition to the main building, the complex will include a Simulation Center equipped with advanced medical and educational training devices, a logistics building, a food court, a backup power plant, a wastewater treatment system, and facilities for general and infectious waste management. There will also be parking areas for staff and visitors.
The total cost of the project is estimated at USD 80,181,681. The construction is being financed through a concessional loan from the Korea Eximbank’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of the Republic of Korea. Of this amount, more than USD 48 million will be allocated to the construction of the hospital and Simulation Center, over USD 26.5 million will be used for the supply and installation of medical equipment, and more than USD 5.5 million will go toward the Hospital Information System (HIS).
The construction period is expected to last 31 months. Work on the project will begin in October 2025 and is scheduled for completion by April 2028.
