(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, along with his spouse and members of the National Disaster Management Committee, visited Luang Namtha Province to distribute relief aid to flood victims and support recovery efforts in the aftermath of recent flooding.

The aid distribution is part of ongoing efforts to assist recovery and rebuild areas severely impacted by Typhoon Yagi, which caused widespread damage across the region.

During the visit, the Prime Minister’s relief team met with affected residents and local authorities, including Luang Namtha Governor Viengsavanh Siphandone, while visiting several flood-hit villages. The relief package included dried food and essential supplies to address immediate needs and support health and sanitation for displaced residents.

The flood affected over 40,000 people in Luang Namtha Province, destroying more than 115 houses and leaving approximately 2,765 people without shelter and belongings. Tragically, two lives were lost in the disaster.

The hardest-hit areas included Luang Namtha town, where 46 villages and over 18,800 residents suffered damage, as well as Sing and Nalae districts, where thousands more were affected.

Prime Minister Sonexay urged local authorities to prioritize the restoration of livelihoods, particularly in agriculture, and the repair of public utilities to ensure the safety of residents.

Expressing his deep concern and solidarity with the affected communities, the Prime Minister conveyed messages of support from the central Party, the government, and the National Assembly.

He encouraged local residents to uphold the spirit of mutual support, cooperate with local authorities, and assist disaster management committees in assessing the damage and planning for rehabilitation.

The Prime Minister called for emergency aid to be provided to affected families, ensuring their livelihoods and accelerating recovery efforts in the agricultural sector, including the preparation of animal breeds, crop seeds, and farm equipment for replanting and reproduction.

On this occasion, provincial authorities and the business community also contributed financial assistance and relief items, valued at over 2 billion kip, for flood victims in the presence of Prime Minister Sonexay and other officials.
