(KPL) Official in charge of builing a bridge spanning the Mekong between Paklay district in Xayaboury Province and Vientiane Province’s Sanakham district has pledged to accelate the upgrading of the bridge to ensure it can be opened to the public by the middle of the month.
The bridge is located between Kokkhaodo village in Paklay istrict and Nasak village in Sanakham district.
“Construction of the brige was 100% completed in April 2017 as stated in the agreement. However since it is necessary to meet greater safety and quality standards and have longer durability, we then decided to add more actvities including repainting and paving the bridge surface with an extra layer of hot mix asphalt. And now we have acomplished painting and we are doing asphalt paving,” said Project Manager Boualien Champaphanh.
“We really poor the people when they cross the river taking a ride on ferries as they waste time and it is also risky to do so but in order to ensure saftey and the durability of the bridge it is necessary to pave asphalt over the brige surface. In the meantime, vehicles cannot be driven on the briddge. Anyway, we will focus on the activity and finish it as soon as possible so that it can be used by the public in the middle of this month and handed over to relevant authorities in October,” said Mr Boualien.
