Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone paid an official visit to Vietnam from June 7–9, 2026, at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, reaffirming the two countries' commitment to strengthening their special relationship and comprehensive cooperation.

Following an official welcoming ceremony in Hanoi on June 7, the two prime ministers held bilateral talks, during which they reviewed cooperation across political affairs, defense and security, trade and investment, education, technology, culture, and social development.
Both sides highly valued the longstanding friendship, special solidarity, and strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam, describing it as a unique and enduring relationship that continues to grow stronger through regular high-level exchanges and close cooperation at all levels.

The two leaders agreed to intensify political cooperation, strengthen defense and security collaboration, expand trade and investment, promote high-quality human resource development, and accelerate the implementation of agreements reached by senior leaders of both countries. They also pledged close coordination in preparations for the Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year 2027 and efforts to pass on the legacy of bilateral friendship to younger generations.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung welcomed Prime Minister Sonexay's visit, noting that it was his first overseas trip since being re-elected as Prime Minister of Laos and an important contribution to further strengthening bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Sonexay expressed appreciation for Vietnam's longstanding support for Laos and congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting the ASEAN Future Forum. He also invited Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to pay an official visit to Laos at a mutually convenient time.

Following the talks, the two prime ministers witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements covering finance, ethnic and religious affairs, education, and transport.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sonexay also laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Monument to Vietnamese Heroic Martyrs and attended an official banquet hosted by the Vietnamese Prime Minister.
