Diplomatic corps, donor countries observe UXO clearance in Pek District

Dong village was badly affected by UXOs remaining during the Indochina war.

The Lao National UXO Programme based in Xieng Khuang Province organized an activity to promote the work of clearing UXO for the representatives of diplomatic corps, NGOs and donor countries visited the village and observed community's thinking on the problem of UXOs, the community's behavior towards UXOs, a question-and-answer test of students' knowledge, listened to the experiences of victims and so on.

Dong village with an area of 2,427 hectares was affected by UXOs where 25 were reportedly fallen to the victims, two deaths and an injured.

Until now, people are still at risk of UXOs, especially in farming, gardening, etc.

Since 2008-2023, in Xiangkhouang Province, there were 232 accidents resulting in 331 injured and 52 deaths.

Under support from the Lao government and donor countries, Xiengkhouang province was able to clear OXUs from 18,605 hectares, of which 87% is agricultural land.
