(KPL) The Traffic Police Division under the Vientiane Capital Police Headquarters has deployed officers at 127 locations across the capital to facilitate traffic and enhance road safety as the 2026–2027 school year begins.
Lt. Col. Sangkhom Phommalat, Head of the Traffic Police Division, said on September 1 that officers had been deployed at 45 school entrances, 69 police booths, and 13 roundabouts and other key locations, particularly along roads prone to congestion.
As of 6 a.m., three minor traffic accidents had been reported, involving six vehicles and causing minor damage. No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Traffic police urged motorists to drive carefully, obey speed limits, signal before turning, and avoid overtaking on narrow or congested roads. Drivers were also warned against improper parking that could obstruct traffic.
Parents and students were reminded that children below the legal driving age must not drive themselves to school. The legal minimum age is 18 for cars and 15 for motorcycles. Motorcycle riders are also required to wear helmets at all times to help prevent accidents and protect lives and property.
