(KPL) Security forces across the country are on heightened alert as Laos prepares to host the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, scheduled for January 6 through 8.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, specialized police units have been deployed around the clock at the National Convention Center in Vientiane since January 3, underscoring the importance of the high-level political gathering.

In an interview on January 4, Brigadier General Saly Phouthavong, Deputy Head of the General Department of Police and a member of the Congress Security Committee, said police are working closely with national defense forces, Vientiane Capital public security authorities, local village officials, and related sectors to ensure comprehensive safety and public order.

Officials say security operations are being carried out in a proactive and coordinated manner, with a focus on preventing disruptions and ensuring the Congress proceeds smoothly.

Brigadier General Saly also urged the public to play an active role in maintaining stability during the event.

“I call on all sectors of society and the multi-ethnic Lao people nationwide to cooperate in safeguarding peace and order, so the Congress can be held safely and successfully,” he said.

The 12th National Congress is a key political event that will outline future directions for national development, drawing broad attention from the Lao public and international observers.
