(KPL) On December1, 2025  Senior Party and government leaders of the Lao PDR, led by President Thongloun Sisoulith, paid tribute at key national monuments to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The delegation laid a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldiers (Red Star) before proceeding to the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, where they placed a flower basket in honour of the late President Kaysone Phomvihane, the founding leader of modern Laos.

Officials said the ceremonies were held to express deep respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of Lao ancestors and revolutionary fighters who, under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, fought for national liberation and paved the way for the proclamation of the Lao PDR on 2 December 1975.

At the museum, leaders paid tribute to President Kaysone, whose leadership was central to the victory over foreign aggression and to the establishment of the Lao PDR. He is also remembered for initiating and guiding the renovation policy, which shaped the country’s direction after liberation and contributed to national development and the improved well-being of all ethnic groups in Laos. Authorities described his legacy as enduring, noting that his contributions remain “deeply engraved in the hearts of all ethnic Lao people”.

National Day, celebrated on 2 December, is regarded as one of the most significant dates in the country’s history — symbolising independence, unity, and the emergence of Laos as a sovereign state with full rights on the international stage. It also marks the nation’s transition into a new era of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, and prosperous society.
