(KPL/KCNA) In a significant step for its regional development strategy, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has inaugurated the new Kangdong County Hospital.
The ceremony, held with great fanfare on Wednesday, was attended by the country’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, and high-ranking officials, who hailed the facility as a model for the nation's future public health system.
The hospital is the first completed project under the "Regional Development 20×10 Policy," a major Party initiative aimed at spurring modernization and economic growth outside the capital. Its completion within a year of groundbreaking was presented as a testament to the nation's capacity for rapid, large-scale construction.
Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), arrived at the ceremony to thunderous cheers from attendees, who included soldiers involved in the construction, local residents, and officials from across the country.
In his commemorative speech, Kim framed the hospital's swift completion as "the standard speed of achieving our ideals" and a clear indicator of the "acceleration of the substantial rejuvenation of the whole country."
He emphasized that the facility has "completely reversed the existing conception of a regional hospital," setting a new benchmark for medical care outside Pyongyang. Kim Jong Un expressed his hope that the medical staff would serve patients with "heartfelt sincerity, tender care and warm affection," protecting community health with their skills.
Declaring a firm commitment to the "our-style modernization of public health," Kim Jong Un stated that such progress is crucial for the country's long-term development and socialist future. He called for continued hard work "with ardent passion and soaring spirit" to transform regions across the nation, filling them with "peace, laughter, happiness and amicability."
Following his speech, Kim Jong Un cut the inauguration tape, triggering a celebratory release of confetti and balloons. He then toured the new hospital, which he described as "a new sphere of regional rejuvenation" and "an epochal entity" that redefines the concept of a regional hospital. He stressed the importance of building on this momentum, announcing plans to "expand the construction of regional public health on a full scale from the coming year."
Officials and citizens present at the event expressed their admiration for the hospital's advanced medical equipment and treatment environments, which are designed to allow local inhabitants access to a standard of care comparable to that available in the capital.
The inauguration of the Kangdong County Hospital is being portrayed by state media as more than just the opening of a medical facility; it is a symbol of the WPK's people-first principle and a tangible promise of the modern, prosperous life the Party aims to deliver to all citizens.
