(KPL/Prensa Latina) Empowering the new generations in the digital field is the focus of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s Global Youth Summit (GYS-25), which opens in this Cuban resort on Tuesday.
The Summit aims to place young people at the center of the talks and decision-making in the sector.
Convened by the ITU and organized along with Cuba’s Informatics and Communication Ministry (MINCOM), participants at the Youth event, active until March 13, will address issues such as digital inclusion, education, and technology sustainability.
ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) Director, Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, pointed out at a press briefing that the Summit will be a room for young people globally to debate cybersecurity and the best proposals to continue closing digital gaps.
Cuba’s Deputy Communications Minister Ernesto Rodriguez stated that the country will be, for three days, the global epicenter of a social challenge: designing a digital future for all young people and from their perspectives, proposals, and knowledge.
Rodriguez stated that this collective construction is not only a technological but also a cultural goal, which highlights the central role of the new generations in the digital transformation.
The GYS-25 agenda includes sessions on how Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) revolutionized telehealth, fostering safe listening practices, and addressing mental health challenges in all age groups.
The Summit delegates will also address Cybersecurity, the digitization of societies and economies; and the increasing exposure to cyberattacks and threats.
GYS-25 will be held in a face-to-face format and will host ITU members, Generation Connect Youth Envoys (GCYE), and invited youth from the United Nations and other related organizations.
