(KPL) The 9th Plenary Session of the 11th Party Central Committee concluded successfully on November 1, following four days of in-depth discussions that began on October 28.

The meeting, held in Vientiane under the presidency of Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith, discussed crucial national issues and strategic objectives for 2025.

The Party Central Committee engaged in comprehensive evaluations and discussions, focusing on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the 2024 budget and monetary plans and the two national agendas over the past one year, and priorities for 2025.

Special emphasis was placed on economic stabilization, national defense and security plans, preparations for the 12th National Congress of the Party, and revisions to the 2015 Constitution.

The Committee highlighted several pressing challenges faced by Laos in 2024, including economic and financial hardships, high living costs, natural disasters, social issues, and drug abuse.

Despite these obstacles, the Committee commended the solidarity and resilience of the Lao people and government institutions under the Party’s leadership, which have contributed to political stability, social order, and steady development progress.

Economic growth in Laos for the first nine months of 2024 has exceeded initial projections, with GDP expected to reach 4.6% by year-end. Revenue collection met its targets, and some regions even surpassed expectations.

Notable achievements included a boost in domestic production, centralized import management, stable foreign exchange rates, and the steady appreciation of the Lao kip.

Party Secretary General Thongloun Sisoulith emphasized that, during these challenging times, it is essential to reinforce ideological education among Party committees, Party members, civil servants, police, armed forces, and the entire populace, fostering strong internal solidarity and resolute commitment to development goals through the end of 2024. This approach aims to create a new momentum for 2025, the final year of the implementation of the 11th National Congress resolution and the 9th five-year socio-economic development plan.

“The government’s priority is to address pressing financial and economic issues, including debt, inflation, exchange rates, high goods prices, and high living costs,” said Secretary General Thongloun Sisoulith. “We must take decisive and concrete action to address these issues. We cannot allow them to persist any longer.”
