(KPL) The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a flood warning for September 15, 2024, as a low-pressure system moves through northern Laos, particularly in the western regions, and continues toward central parts of the country.

Combined with strong southwestern monsoon winds, this system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across the country, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas.

The forecast indicates continued rainfall over the next two days, with moderate to heavy precipitation likely across multiple regions. This could lead to rising water levels in major rivers, particularly the Mekong, posing flood risks in several districts.

Communities living near the Mekong in Luang Prabang as well as those in Sikhottabong, Sisattanak, Hatsayfong, and Pakngum Districts in Vientiane, are urged to stay alert and take precautions against potential floods. Local authorities are advised to be prepared for emergency situations and to monitor conditions closely.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following regular updates from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and water-level advisories to ensure their safety.
