President Thongloun visits the Russian Federation

ຂປລ (KPL) Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith and a delegation of high-ranking officials of Laos left Vientiane yesterday for a state visit to the Russian Federation in response to the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

(KPL) Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith and a delegation of high-ranking officials of Laos left Vientiane yesterday for a state visit to the Russian Federation in response to the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of Russia. 

President Thongloun’s visit aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, states and peoples of Laos and Russia, celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Amity (1994-2024) and attend the Victory Parade of the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow.

The President is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, and visit Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg.

The Lao PDR and the Russian Federation established diplomatic relations on October 7, 1960. Since then the two countries have strengthened and deepened their relations and cooperation in many areas namely exchange of visits by high-level delegations, defense and security, trade, investment, education, public health, and humanitarian assistance.
