(KPL) A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Healthcare Centre in Viengxay village, Phouvong District, Attapeu Province.

Governor of Attapeu Province Leth Xayyaphone and  Ambassador of India to Laos Dinkar Asthana attended the ceremony along with representatives of relevant authorities.

The project was undertaken under grant assistance of US$ 50,000 from the Government of India under the Quick Impact Project (QIP) Scheme of Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC).

Addressing the ceremony, the Ambassador noted that with this Healthcare Centre, people in the remote Viengxay village and neighbouring areas will get better medical facilities.  In particular, the Centre will provide better healthcare services for pregnant women as it will also have a child delivery room.  He hoped that the project would be completed in the near future.

India has taken up 11 Quick Impact Projects in Laos in the areas of health, education, drinking water facility, agriculture, etc. in remote areas across many provinces of Laos. Out of these, five projects have been completed and remaining six projects are at an advanced stage of implementation.  The projects reach out to and benefit the grassroots.

Mr. Leth XAYYAPHONE, Governor of Attapeu in his remarks appreciated the grant assistance from India for the implementation of the project in the health sector which is an important sector for socioeconomic development of the Lao PDR.

India and the Lao PDR are partners on the basis of equality, respect for national sovereignty, and mutual benefit in their pursuit of development of their peoples. Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed India’s commitment to continue its development partnership with the Lao PDR in a telephonic conversation with then Prime Minister  Thongloun Sisoulith in June 2020.
